Beautiful deep river (Crooked River) canyon with rimrock in desert area; Oregon high desert plateau; popular rock climbing area with over 1000 climbing routes; major rock faces are composed of welded tuff (compressed volcanic ash) reaching to 550 feet high; Monkey Face is a 350 foot chunk of stone staring back from canyons westend; Dihedrals, Morning Glory Wall, Misery Ridge Trail/Summit; view of Mount Jefferson. River running through the park creates grassy, meadow areas. From the high points there are great vistas of surrounding ground and mountains.
